About

Hello! I am a designer and educator living in the Pacific Northwest. With advanced degrees in both art and education, and skills in project coordination, I enjoy exploring ways these disciplines can intersect. My professional experience includes graphic design for both corporate and academic environments, instructional design, and administrative coordination.

I am also a sculptor and enjoy exploring themes of communication. I work in a variety of materials including metal, wood, fabric, glass, and concrete.

Teaching Philosophy

My approach to teaching is to understand and support learners as they pursue ideas through problem-solving and persistence. I believe a strong sense of community can be cultivated in a classroom environment and expression can be enriched through critical discussions with peers. As an educator, my role is to guide learners through decision-making processes and embrace the ongoing challenge of questioning and refining ideas. I strive to foster a safe, collaborative environment where thoughts can be shared openly, and where our unique perspectives are valued as an essential part of creating collective meaning.

Artist Statement

We have witnessed dramatic changes during the rise of the information age and the shifts it has brought to the home, workplace, and interactions we have with each other. The paradox of communication is that the more readily connected we get through technology, the less emotionally connected we may get to each other. We equate efficient interaction to emotional proximity and the nuances of personal interaction are lost. It is this observation of present day communication and changes in human interaction that has heightened my interest in memory, loss, and transition.

I'm interested in how we curate and publicly present our best selves. I'm also intrigued how objects, once relevant to our everyday lives, become obsolete. As a sculptor, I use a variety of materials such as metal, wood, fabric, glass, and concrete. With a balance of materials both permanent and impermanent, I am exploring the memories we carry, the traces we leave and the role the object plays in this dynamic.
